EYFS - Reception

Welcome to our Reception page ...

We have two reception classes in our Foundation Stage.

Reception 1’s class teacher is Miss O’Connor and the Teaching Assistant is Mrs Lane.
Reception 2’s class teacher is Miss Sproates and the HLTA is Mrs Moffitt.

In Reception we have focused lessons daily which include; phonics, literacy, maths and RE as well as lots of opportunities to learn through play. PE and Spanish lessons are weekly. The children are given time in the provision areas completing challenges and initiating their own learning through play.

We have a Foundation Stage playground which is shared between Nursery and Reception. Children will experience play opportunities outside in all weathers, so please make sure your child is wearing appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear. We have waterproof trousers and jackets in school for children to use during severe weather in the winter months.

Our topics for the academic year 2017/2018.
We link our topics to the seasons and we incorporate our 17 Sustainable Development Goals into our work.

We invite you into the Reception classes every Wednesday morning from 8:45 to read with your child. This session is a great opportunity to find out about your child's favourite story and to become familiar with the ORT reading scheme we use. The session will end at 9:30. Please make sure that your children bring their book bags to school every day.

We follow the Read, Write Inc scheme in small focused groups. Phonics sessions are held at 10:30 daily. During the phonics sessions children learn new sounds with corresponding pictures. The children practice segmenting and blending words and writing them. Children move through the coloured books and learn more sounds as they go.

Stay and Play
Each half term Nursery and Reception children and their families are invited to a Stay and Play session in the main hall. These sessions are packed with lots of activities around the current topics your child is learning about and will help you to extend their learning at home.
