KS1 - Year 2
Welcome to our Year 2 class page ...
Hello everyone, and welcome to Year 2! My name is Mr Swinnerton and our teaching assistant is Mrs Jones.
Year 2 is a lot of hard work but also a lot of fun. We spend a great deal of time in Literacy covering Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPAG) and work really hard on our reading comprehension. In Maths, we concentrate on our times-tables and solving trickier number problems. Then, in RE, we follow the ‘Come and See’ approach, learning about the Church and exploring various themes throughout the year. Incredibly, in between all of those, we still manage to find time for Topic, Science, Art, Music, PE, SMSC, Computing and even Spanish!
Our first topic this term is ‘Land Ahoy’ in which we will all be learning about Pirates and Seafarers. Did pirates really have eyepatches and peg-legs? Did they really bury treasure? Who was Captain Cook? All these questions will be answered and more as we get to grips with this nautical topic.
This term your child will have brought home a new reading book and record. We ask that you listen to your child read every night and return the signed reading record each morning. This will have a huge impact on your child’s reading ability and gives them a leg up in the oncoming SATs!
Your child will also be bringing home a new homework grid. We ask that it is brought in every Thursday so that it can be marked and returned on the Friday. Again, by completing their homework your child will be consolidating the skills they have learned in school and so this will only benefit their learning.
Finally, if you have any questions/worries/concerns, Mr Swinnerton is always around at the end of the day and will be happy to meet with you and help in any which way he can.
