KS2 - Year 6
Welcome to our Year 6 class page ...
In Year 6, we have daily English and Maths lessons, with an enriching range of Foundation Subjects each afternoon. Our fantastic team consists of class teachers Mrs Boanas and Miss Dalton and Teaching Assistants, Mrs McNab and Mrs Hindshaw. PSHE is taught by Mrs Gamesby and PE is taught by Mr. Curtis (Teacher) and Mrs. Wilson (Teaching Assistant).
In year 6 this year, we will study a range of topics. In the autumn term, children will investigate the events surrounding World War Two, followed by Fairtrade in spring and The Rainforest in summer.
RE will follow the 'Come and See' programme, in which the children will explore their Catholic faith, in the context of a range of different themes.
Autumn Term – World War 2
A siren sounds, a building crumbles, and a Spitfire zooms overhead. Take cover! It’s 1939 and Britain is at war. Deep down in the Anderson shelter, children will learn why nations are fighting and why child evacuees must make the long journey from their homes and families into unknown territory.
And, as peace is declared, let’s get ready to celebrate. Mr Churchill says ‘It’s an unconditional surrender!’
As a ‘stunning starter’ to the topic, year 6 will be visiting Eden Camp.

Science – Healthy Body and Light and Electricity
RE - Domestic Church/Family, Baptism/Confirmation/Belonging, Advent/Christmas/Loving
Spring Term – Trade in your Trolley
Fairtrade is a simple yet incredibly important idea – it’s all about giving the people who produce the things you buy a fair price for their work. This may seem obvious, but lots of people in poorer countries have to sell their goods at prices so low that they can’t make a decent living. Often, only a tiny bit of the money you pay for something goes to the person who actually made it! This happens a lot when we import things from poorer countries.
Did you know that nearly half the people in the world live on less than £2 a day?
Literacy – persuasive writing, reports, information texts
Numeracy - Fractions, decimals and angles.
Science – Materials and Evolution
RE - Local Church/Community, Eucharist/Relating, Lent/Easter/Giving
Summer Term – The Rainforest
In this engaging topic, the children will take a trek into the depths of the jungle and explore the fascinating world of the rainforest. They will discover where the rainforests are, what they are like, who lives in rainforests (including animals, plants and indigenous peoples) and much more!
Literacy - narrative writing, non-chronological reports, letters, persuasive writing
